Red warning level: Storms are currently approaching in large parts of the country. Numerous cellars have already been flooded in Bürmoos in Salzburg. The risk of floods and mudslides is also increasing again in the north and east of Austria!
The unsettled weather in the Alpine region continues. According to the Austrian Severe Weather Center (uwz), there are heavy rain showers and thunderstorms in Upper Austria, Lower Austria, Burgenland, Styria and also in Vienna. According to the warning center, flooding is also expected.
More than twenty cellars are already flooded
In Salzburg im Flachgau, the emergency services already have their hands full. In Bürmoos, more than 20 cellars are already flooded due to the heavy rain. The low elevation also caused a mudslide in Lower Austria. In the Melk district, the Aggsteiner Straße (B33) had to be closed. A cyclist was reportedly injured when the rocks fell.
Floods and mudslides possible
Rain also continued to fall in the west, in Vorarlberg, on Monday, sometimes heavy and alternating with thunderstorms. Large amounts of rain are possible in the evening hours, especially in the eastern edge of the Alps and in Burgenland. The risk of small-scale floods and mudslides is greater, especially on the saturated soils in the western Northern Alps, but also on the eastern edge of the Alps and in Styria, the uwz said.
The focus of the rain remains in the east
The focus of the rain is expected to shift further east during the night. This is what Geosphere Austria predicts. There will still be thunderstorms and heavy rain can be expected in rain-covered streets. In the west, precipitation is increasingly decreasing and in East Tyrol and Upper Carinthia it even remains dry in some places.
