A prisoner wrapped two prison guards around his finger: one brought vodka, the other cell phones in exchange for money. All three were now in court.
The co-suspect knows the port all too well: the Bosnian, who has been convicted dozens of times, must remain behind bars until 2031. To make his life in prison more pleasant, the criminal used his charm. For example, he managed to have two prison guards abuse their positions between December 2021 and August 2022.
“I have known him for a long time,” a currently suspended guard said of his friendship with the suspect during Tuesday’s trial before the Salzburg Regional Court. He smuggled five smartphones into his cell for 2,000 euros. “And you risk your job for 2,000 euros?” asked judge Gabriele Glatz. “A stupid mistake,” answers the local. He also went to the legal system to find out the address of another inmate – another accusation. “I didn’t think anything of it.”
Ghosts brought into cells
The second ex-guard also repented and confessed: he brought the Bosnian spirits with him three times. “I didn’t get any money,” he emphasizes. Apparently he only did it out of favor, because he had known the criminal for fifteen years. He also carried out two money transfers on his behalf, but did so in his spare time. Lawyer Kurt Jelinek emphasizes: “The two security officers did not work together.”
And what does the criminal think? “I just asked, but I definitely didn’t specify anyone. I just wanted to talk to my daughter on the phone.” The prosecutor is surprised: “And you need so many cell phones for that?” You have to be prepared, he says next to his confession.
The sentences for the two prison guards were ten months and a seven-month suspended prison sentence. The prisoner will receive an additional six months to his prison sentence. “The ruling is also a signal to other officials. “That appears to have been just the tip of the iceberg,” the judge concluded.
