Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) announced on Thursday morning that the corona test strategy will be extended until the end of the year. A new campaign also aims to increase vaccination readiness in the fall and thus protect domestic hospitals from overload.
Vaccinate, test, re-vaccinate, boost in between and then test to be sure – the experts’ recommendations have been sounding the same for months. Because they are correct. “With an associated vaccination rate, we can reduce infections by ten to fifteen percent and hospitalizations by up to 25 percent,” calculates simulation researcher Niki Popper.
“We will not rest in the summer”
The increasing numbers in recent days have come as no great surprise to both GECKO crisis coordinator Katharina Reich and Health Minister Rauch. “The valley of low numbers has passed. We will not have peace in the summer, there is no stability,” Reich said.
She urges adherence to vaccination recommendations: “Vulnerable groups should be vaccinated now, next time in the fall. Everyone else who has already been vaccinated three times should get boosters about eight weeks before the fall wave,” Reich says.
Test strategy extended until the end of the year
Due to the recently higher numbers (see above), Rauch emphasizes extending the testing strategy until the end of the year. “This also has the advantage that we can increase test capacities at any time.” To dizzying heights, as was the case in March (see chart above). Hopefully without the associated contamination figures.
