Lights off, music on, dancing until the food arrives – children’s parties in my childhood followed a simple principle. But that’s been over for a few years: trampoline parks, magic shows, clown performances and much more are now almost necessary to keep the children happy. I’m not a magician. Besides, my belief in magic is as weak as my sleight of hand. And yet every year I grant my daughter’s wish for a magic show at her birthday party. I stick to the popular motto: Less is more. There are no expensive utensils or elaborate decor. Even the cylinder on the head is missing. For what? Rabbits don’t follow my every word.
Yet the magic show is well received every year by the six to eight year old audience. Knowing that it won’t be enough for the big stage in Las Vegas, I give my wife at least a few riddles.
