Biden warns that the troops that caused the capture of the Capitol are still active

Date:

The commission investigating the attack on Capitol Hill concluded Thursday that the attack was an “attempted coup” by Trump.

United States President Joe Biden warned this Friday that the “forces” storming the capital from January 6, 2021 are still active today.

The president made these statements at the beginning of a speech at the Port of Los Angeles and after last night the commission investigating the Capitol attack delivered its first public audience

Biden has said he was unable to attend that hearing because he was “busy with other business” at the Summit of the Americas, which concludes this Friday.

“It is important that the American people understand what really happened and that they understand that the same forces that led to January 6, are still active today“, it turned out.

He has claimed that the attack on Capitol Hill was… “one of the darkest moments” of American history and has called it a “cruel attack” on American democracy.

“This is about our own democracy. We have to protect our democracy,” the president claimed.

And he added: “We see how the battle for the soul of the United States is far from being won. But I know that together we can unite and defend this nation, the Democrats and the Republicans, not to allow anyone stab a dagger in the throat of our democracy”.

The first hearing of the commission investigating the Capitol attack was marked by videos and testimony broadcast live during prime time by nearly all television channels in the country in an attempt to influence American public opinion.

The commission’s investigators have tried to show that the attack on Capitol Hill was the “culmination point” of a coup attempt by then-President Donald Trump (2017-2021), and have pointed to the possibility that the far-right group Proud Boys he would have planned the attack in advance.

On January 6, 2021, About 10,000 people – most of them Trump supporters – marched to the Capitol and some 800 broke into the building with the aim of interrupting the parliamentary session to confirm Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election.

five people died, including an officer who suffered a heart attack hours after the attack, and about 140 officers were attacked. In addition, four police officers subsequently committed suicide.
