A cautious sigh of relief after a dramatic accident with an automatic stable door in Waldkirchen am Wesen. A two-year-old child was so badly trapped that he stopped breathing and had to be resuscitated. Doctors at the Linz University Hospital managed to stabilize the little one’s circulation. The cause of the accident was still unclear on Sunday evening.
While the mother and grandfather were working in the stables on Saturday evening, the accident happened just a few meters away: a two-year-old girl was, as reported, trapped in the same building by a heavy, automatically operated roller blind – a kind of roller blind.
When the toddler was finally found around 6:55 p.m., he was no longer breathing. “Fortunately, the girl was already free when we arrived,” reports operations manager Bernhard Reitinger of the Aichberg-Waldkirchen fire brigade. “I didn’t see the roller blind itself, but it was some kind of stable door.”
In intensive care
Only moments later, the Christophorus 10 emergency medical helicopter team arrived and began resuscitation efforts. Fortunately, this worked and the toddler started breathing again. The girl who suffered an accident was then immediately flown to the Linz University Hospital (Med Campus IV) in Linz. From there it was said on Sunday morning: The little one was treated in intensive care, but her condition was now stable.
To research
The tragic incident involved four fire brigades, rescue services, police and an emergency helicopter. The two-year-old girl’s family was cared for by the crisis intervention team. How and why the dramatic accident occurred is now the subject of a police investigation.
