Police in Carinthia had to be deployed twice in the past two days because drunken men caused a lot of commotion. While one attacked his girlfriend and her father with knives in Millstatt, another attacked restaurant and camping guests in Villach.
As has only now become known, the first incident occurred on Friday around 7:15 p.m. Fearing for her partner, a 22-year-old went to her apartment in Millstatt with her father (51) after her boyfriend had previously damaged a glass vase on the first floor of the home and pieces of glass had fallen on the ground floor.
“The woman was particularly scared because she had been in constant arguments with her 26-year-old partner over the past few months over his drinking and he also physically assaulted her by repeatedly twisting her fingers and arm,” police said.
Father managed to snatch knives away
When the woman entered the apartment with her father, the 26-year-old approached them with two knives in his right hand. During a scuffle, the father managed to grab the man’s two knives, after which he fled and the 51-year-old eventually alerted the police.
“The 26-year-old was arrested in Millstatt am See around 8 p.m. and taken to the Millstatt police station. The breath analysis showed that he was heavily intoxicated,” said a police officer. An entry and weapons ban was issued against the man and a report is being filed.
Drunken man actively sought confrontation
The next day at 8:42 p.m., police were called to a restaurant near a bathhouse in Villach because a man was allegedly harassing guests there. When we arrived at the scene, a 22-year-old Croat living in Villach was screaming loudly. He was clearly very drunk, insulted those present and became violent towards one person by violently shoving him.
“The 22-year-old actively sought confrontation. Despite repeated requests, he did not stop his behavior and was therefore removed from the location,” police said. The Croat initially complied with this request, but started harassing guests camping in a camper place in the immediate vicinity. Police wanted to drive the man from the location again, but instead the drunk man became increasingly aggressive.
Man became more and more aggressive
“He became increasingly aggressive and had to be arrested as a last resort after repeated threats,” said a police officer. The 22-year-old was taken to the Villach police detention center where he will be questioned during the day on Sunday and reported once the investigation is completed.
