Two serious traffic accidents occurred in Vienna on Thursday, leaving two pedestrians seriously injured. In Liesing the driver (48) was heavily drunk and committed a collision.
The first accident took place on Rosiwalgasse in the direction of Rothneusiedler Gasse in Liesing. A 48-year-old driver suddenly left the road, got into a traffic jam and hit a 32-year-old pedestrian. However, the car did not stop and subsequently crashed into a light pole and a bus stop.
Instead of stopping and checking on the injured man, the driver stepped on the gas and sped away. Attentive passers-by observed the accident and immediately alerted the rescue services. The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Lenker turned himself in moments later
The impact caused the driver to lose a license plate, which was recovered by the police a short time later. A search for the driver was immediately launched. The 48-year-old only told a friend about the accident in Lower Austria (Leopoldsdorf). Shortly afterwards he turned himself in to the police. An alcohol test showed 1.12 per mille. His driver’s license was temporarily confiscated.
Another accident in Simmering
A serious accident also took place in Simmering on Wednesday. A 43-year-old motorist caught a 28-year-old pedestrian on Simmeringer Hauptstrasse who was about to cross the street. A collision occurred between the two, resulting in the pedestrian being taken to hospital with serious injuries.
