The trial of two prostitutes and their lender ended Monday at the Vienna Regional Court with long prison sentences. The women had contacted ten older and single men via dating platforms, arranged dates and robbed them during so-called home visits.

One of the prostitutes – a 43-year-old woman – was jailed for eight years, and a 28-year-old was jailed for nine years. A 53-year-old who pulled the strings in the background got 13 years.

The women, from Hungary, had worked on the dating platform with fake profiles showing many younger, attractive women. One of their victims was the legendary Viennese burglar king Ernst Walter Stummer, who was selected, drugged and robbed by both of them in his apartment on October 4, 2023.

“We didn’t find much,” Stummer joked at the end of May during the first hearing in the Gray House. The now 85-year-old, who had spent about 30 years of his life in prison, had sued the Republic of Austria at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) to have his months of insurance against his prison work count towards his pension , had served the women a bottle of champagne.

In six cases the two women acted in pairs, and in four cases the 43-year-old woman acted alone. According to the prosecutor, after the victims became incapacitated, the 53-year-old entered the apartment, searched the rooms and took valuables, including a 60-kilo safe. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the loot consisted of cash and jewelry worth a total of 70,000 euros, with two victims being treated particularly poorly with compensation of 33,500 and 23,200 euros respectively. In addition to Vienna, the crime scenes included the Upper Austrian metropolises of Linz and Wels, as well as cities on the Dachstein and Burgenland.
