A 79-year-old man suffered serious injuries in a residential building in Neukirchen am Großvenediger (Salzburg) on Monday. A gas explosion took place on the ground floor.
When the volunteer fire brigade was alerted on Monday afternoon, they found broken glass spread over hundreds of meters in front of and in a residential building. There was a man sitting in front of a house where a gas explosion had occurred. The 78-year-old resident suffered injuries of an unknown nature.
Burning gas
Passersby gave the man first aid and extinguished a small fire with a hand fire extinguisher. The fire brigade detected flammable gas in the vicinity of a crawl space with a gas detector. The local electricity supplier was immediately called in to disconnect the building from the electricity grid.
After the risk of ignition due to electrical sparks could be excluded, the crawl space was ventilated until no more gas could be measured. The injured person was flown to the Salzburg Accident Hospital by Alpin Heli 6. The cause of the explosion must now be determined.
