Bridge in limbo? – Why the Wachau innkeepers will soon be abandoned

Date:

Actually, the construction of the new Danube crossing at Mautern should have started since last autumn. But so far, there has been no search for cranes, excavators etc. – and now the planned replacement bridge is also in the dark. What does this mean for employees, students and also catering establishments in the Wachau.

A bridge connects. In the case of Mautern, the prestigious northern bank of the Wachau with the increasingly popular excursion destinations on the right bank of the Danube. And the residential city on the southern bank with the cultural, economic and academic centre of Krems. Now the bridge in question is getting old and needs to be replaced – as has been reported several times. Because the old bridge is old and therefore a national monument, it cannot simply be demolished. After the bridgeheads and abutments have been replaced, it must be dismantled and at least partially rebuilt.
