Labour leader Keir Starmer is now the new Prime Minister of Great Britain

Date:

He has already had an audience with King Charles III, who has given him the task of forming a government. The new prime minister has said that Britain has voted “decisively for change” and wants to “bring politics back into the public service”.

Labour leader Keir Starmer received the task of forming a government as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from King Charles III on Friday, after holding an audience with the sovereign at Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the royal family in London.

Starmer drove to the government headquarters in Downing Street, which will now be his official residence and office, where he made his first address to the nation as head of government after winning a historic overall majority in last Thursday’s general election.

In that speech, the new Prime Minister declared that Britain had voted “decisively for change” and for “returning politics to the public service”.
