The Unter-Auerklamm in the Tyrolean Ötztal is one of the most popular canyoning routes in Austria. However, a serious accident occurred there on Saturday. A 23-year-old fell. Her hesitation could have been the young woman’s downfall.
The 23-year-old German was traveling with a group of 13 people and a canyoning guide. The accident happened in the lower part of the gorge near Oetz during the so-called Hohen Sprung.
Fear of twelve meter jumps
At this point, the participants have to jump twelve meters into a pool. That was probably too risky for the 23-year-old at the last moment. Although she started, she stopped again shortly before the jump. As a result, she slipped on the rock and fell into the depths.
During the uncontrolled fall, the vacationer hit the rocks several times and ended up in the water with serious injuries. The guide started the rescue chain. The injured person was taken to Zams Hospital.
