With speeds of over 100 km/h, a front of thunderstorms moved from Bavaria over Upper Austria on Saturday evening. In Linz, the fire brigade was constantly busy because trees snapped and entire roofs were blown off houses. Two people were seriously injured during the knight’s festival in the city center.
The thunderstorm front moved across Upper Austria on Saturday evening – as predicted by experts. In the Innviertel, numerous trees were uprooted when the first gusts of wind of over 100 km/h raged through the country around 19:00, accompanied by heavy rain.
“We are in constant use”
The storm also raged in Linz in the evening. During a performance at the big knight’s festival in the city centre, parts of a tree fell onto the stage. Two people were seriously injured and three were slightly injured. One person was also injured on OK Square. In addition, at least two houses in Urfahr were covered and large parts of the roofs were thrown onto the street. “We are constantly in operation,” said the professional fire brigade in Linz.
House burned down
In the evening hours, about a hundred fire brigades were active throughout the country. The storm front had moved on as quickly as it had come. But the clean-up work continues.
And as if that wasn’t enough, in Herzogsdorf (Urfahr-Raum district) 16 fire brigades had to respond – a building was on fire.
