Heavy rocket attacks are currently shaking Ukraine. In the capital Kiev, a children’s hospital was hit. There are many dead and wounded to mourn.
Rockets hit Ukraine in broad daylight on Monday—not at night, as is usually the case. Windows were smashed and cladding torn off at a children’s hospital in Kiev. Parents holding their babies walked out of the shelter, dazed and sobbing, into the street. “We heard an explosion and then we were showered with rubble,” said 33-year-old Svitlaka Kravchenko. Her two-month-old baby was unharmed, but the woman suffered cuts.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the Russian military fired cruise missiles and several hypersonic Kinzhal (Dagger) missiles at targets in the city of three million people. Mayor Vitali Klitschko and the head of the presidential office, Andriy Yermak, confirmed that there was also an impact at a children’s hospital.
One of the worst attacks since the beginning of the war
The attack on Kiev was one of the most serious in the two years of the war, Klitschko told Reuters news agency in dismay. According to the authorities, nine people were killed in the capital alone. According to preliminary information, about 25 people were also wounded.
The Austrian Foreign Ministry described the fact that a children’s hospital was attacked as “more than disgusting!”. The Okhmatdyt hospital benefited from Austrian aid. “We will continue our support and #StandWithUkraine,” the ministry stressed on X.
At least twenty people died
In addition to Kiev, shelling was reported from Dnipro, Kramatorsk and other places. According to Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, at least 20 people were killed and about 50 injured as a result of Monday’s attacks across the country. Industrial facilities, infrastructure, residential and commercial buildings were damaged. According to the authorities there, 10 people were killed in Kryvyi Rih. 41 people were injured. Mayor Olexandr Wilkul reported that various effects were reported in the city. Among other things, there was damage to the administrative building of an industrial company.
Russian missile attacks were also reported in the east of the country. At least three people were killed in the city of Pokrovsk. One missile hit an unspecified building, the governor of the Donetsk region said on Telegram’s short-message service. Local media also reported explosions in Dnipro and Kropyvnytskyi in central Ukraine.
“All forces are being deployed to save as many people as possible,” Zelensky assured in Telegram. The head of state published a short video showing destroyed hospital rooms and blood stains on the floor. Zelensky spoke about people being buried. “Everyone is helping to clean up the rubble – doctors and other people,” he wrote. “And the whole world must use all its determination to finally put an end to Russian attacks.” Zelensky’s chief of staff Yermak emphasized: “An attack on Ukraine at a time when most people are on the streets. Crazy Russian terrorists,” Yermak wrote during the attack on Telegram.

Their car drove over the mine on a dirt road in a forest, Oleh Synyegubov explained online on Monday. The victims were a man, two women, a five-year-old boy and a three-month-old baby.
Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian invasion for more than two years with Western help. Kiev is constantly pushing its allies to provide even more modern air defense systems.
