Co-worker stabbed – Life sentence after murder out of jealousy

Date:

Because he thought he was having an affair with his wife, a 40-year-old Montenegrin man stabbed his Bosnian employee of the same age with a knife. Fifteen months and three days of proceedings at the regional court of Wels later, the verdict was pronounced on Tuesday: life imprisonment for the Montenegrin.

On March 31 of the previous year, the suspect “killed with five powerful stab wounds” an employee he suspected of having an affair with his wife at his company’s warehouse in Marchtrenk (Wels-Land district), the prosecutor said. He then forced a 19-year-old employee with the bloody knife to drive him to a café.

On the way he called his wife and said, “I killed your lover, now I’m going to jail and then I’ll kill you.”

“I actually had everything”
The 40-year-old committed the crime out of “unfounded, angry jealousy,” according to the prosecutor. The man “actually had everything”: family, house, a business and a good income. A few years ago, he started drinking, using cocaine, going to brothels and abusing his wife. A month before the bloody act against the Bosnian man, he was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence for persistent violence against his wife. It was not the first time that he suspected one of his employees.

No self-defense
The defense strategy of pleading “perceived self-defense” because the convicted man believed the victim wanted to attack him and he was merely preventing this, fell on deaf ears for the judge and lay judges: now the 40-year-old must serve life in prison.
