Boat capsized – boat drivers save young people from drowning

Date:

Boat drivers have apparently saved three young people from death on the Altaussee: the boys capsized their rowing boat on Tuesday and called for help in panic. At the last moment, the victims were able to save themselves on two platforms – otherwise they would probably have drowned.

It was shortly before 6 p.m. when locals, who are also firefighters, became aware of the accident on their historic Plätten (flat wooden boats) at Altaussee. “They were there as swimmers themselves when they heard the cries for help,” says Altaussee Fire Chief Christian Fischer, describing the dramatic operation.

“It was at the last minute”
They immediately rowed out to help the youngsters who had capsized their rowboat. “It was at the last moment,” says Commander Fischer, who is obviously proud of his comrades’ efforts. “If they hadn’t been there, the whole thing would have been different.”

Boat lies on the bottom of the lake
The fire brigade pulled the three youngsters onto the platform and their rowing boat sank to the bottom. “It is now 53 meters deep,” the fire chief explains the drama. The trio was then handed over to the boat crew of the Altaussee fire brigade, who took them to the coast, where rescue services and police were already waiting.

“They’re doing well now,” says a relieved Christian Fischer. But the young people were in shock. You are currently in Altaussee as a guest worker for a summer internship. According to Fischer, the cause of the accident is currently still the subject of police investigation.
