Work on a sewer system in Oberwaltersdorf (Baden district) claimed one life on Wednesday. According to the local fire brigade, a man was probably pushed into a 100-meter-long pipe by a flood wave in the sewer on Thursday. The worker died of his injuries at the scene.
The accident occurred during measures to repair a broken sewer in an underground pipeline near a dirt road. It is believed the man was pushed into the pipe with a diameter of 60 centimeters.
Not been there for a long time
The helpers worked for hours. Four underwater pumps were placed in various shafts and members of the Southern Diving Group of the Lower Austrian State Fire Brigade Association also arrived. The victim of the accident could not be located for a long time. The man was finally rescued with the help of rope technology.
