A woman was carried out to sea by the current on a beach in Japan and was only rescued after 36 hours, 80 kilometers (50 miles) off the coast near the Boso Peninsula outside the Japanese capital Tokyo.
Two coast guard crew members, who had been alerted by radio, saw the Chinese woman in the water and rescued the woman, who was floating in the sea with a rubber swimming ring.
Carried away by the water while bathing
The woman, in her 20s, told rescuers she was swept away by the water while swimming on the beach and was unable to return to the beach.
Dried out, otherwise fine
The Coast Guard launched a rescue operation Monday night after the woman was reported missing. She was finally rescued Wednesday morning. She was dehydrated, but did not require hospitalization.
