The body of a teenager was found in the trunk of a burning car in southern France. The 17-year-old was shot in the head, tied at the knees and ankles and had a garbage bag over his head, the prosecutor’s office said in Marseille on Wednesday.
The victim was attributed to the drug scene. Authorities began a murder investigation.
High crime rate in Marseille
The Mediterranean metropolis of Marseille has been plagued by drug-related crime and violence for years. In May, a 17-year-old was shot dead in Marseille.
Last week, a 19-year-old was shot dead in the city. Last year alone, a total of 49 people were killed in connection with violence in Marseille’s drug community. This year, there have been nine so far.
