Since Monday, the Graz Volksgarten has once again become a protection zone to combat the escalating drug crime. The “Krone” patrolled the problem park on Thursday with Graz police officers and guide dogs – and has the first balance.
The protection zone in the Volksgarten in Graz, which the city’s residents and ÖVP have vehemently requested, has been in effect since midnight on Monday. For many residents, the park has long since become a ‘no-go area’, where brutal violence, harassment and blatant drug deals are the order of the day. Now officers from the nearest police station in Lend and from various special units have a new, effective measure at their disposal: they can drive suspicious people out of the “green oasis” and order a stop on their return. And that has already happened a lot in the past few days.
