American elections
The former president, cooped up with covid, has reiterated “his desire to return to the campaign trail,” along with his criticism of Trump’s speech, as Joe Biden continues to ignore Democratic lawmakers’ request to end his re-election campaign.
US President Joe Biden refuted Donald Trump’s speech last Friday via social network X and lamented being locked down due to covid. The president has reiterated his “desire to return to the campaign trail,” despite pressure from thirteen Democratic lawmakers who are calling for his election campaign to end.
Apparently ignoring pressure from his own party, the US President has refuted Trump’s speech at the Republican National Convention via a post published on X: “I’m stuck at home with covid so I had the extraordinary misfortune of ‘Look at Donald Trump’s speech at the RNC. What the hell was he talking about?'”
Biden is apparently in isolation at his Delware home after testing positive for COVID last Wednesday.
The pressure is mounting
Thirteen Democratic lawmakers have voiced their displeasure with Joe Biden’s candidacy, calling on him to end his re-election campaign and “pass the baton” so another leader can confront former President Donald Trump.
With this total, there are now 38 members of Congress calling for Biden’s withdrawal. In addition, 34 of them are House Representatives and 4 Senators. This means that the dissenting voices represent more than 14% of the Democratic membership in both chambers.
So the phrase used, “Pass the baton,” has become a kind of slogan that many of them have used to pressure the president to end his election campaign.
