Honest manhunt – asphalt fraudsters arrested on the spot

Date:

Things ended badly for the brazen fraudsters in St. Andrä in the Wolfsberg district of Carinthia: when they wanted to cash in on a victim with supposedly cheap asphalt work, the alerted police arrested the three Poles. Among other things because her truck was on the wanted list in Italy.

The offer seemed tempting: a so-called foreman approached a 43-year-old on his farm in St. Andrä and offered to asphalt a section of his driveway. The company had completed a job nearby and had a small amount of asphalt left over. He could process this – only the working time of 48 euros per square meter would be charged, the material is free.

The potential victim agreed – and was later literally presented with the painful bill: instead of the “small remaining amount” of material, the three Poles asphalted the entire entrance to the 240 square meter courtyard. The 43-year-old had ultimately had to pay a total bill of 11,520 euros. The owner of the farm suspected a bold scam and had the presence of mind to alert the police.

Truck seized, suspects taken away
And rightly so: one of the trucks on the scene appeared to be on the wanted list of the Italian colleagues. The officers then seized the truck and, after consultation with the Klagenfurt public prosecutor’s office, arrested the three suspects on the spot.
