The fire brigade in the Mostviertel came to the aid of the feathered pilots with the telescopic mast platform. Other animal missions also kept the volunteers busy in Lower Austria.
Four young falcons probably overestimated their strength during their first flight in Ybbs an der Donau, Melk district. The feathered young hunters had to end their journey to the sky abruptly – and made an emergency landing in the sewage treatment plant. Florianis even had to extend the lifting platform to be able to rescue one of the squeaking pilots from the sewage sludge. The other three at least made it to the edge of the pool.
Snake caused a moment of shock
However, a snake caused a fire brigade operation in Erla, Amstetten district. It got lost in the garden of a parental home and scared the family. The alerted helpers rescued the grass snake and released it again in the nearby floodplains.
Hedgehog and dog stuck in fences
The fire brigade had to use heavy equipment to rescue two other four-legged friends: In Vösendorf, in the Mödling district, a small hedgehog had become entangled in a fence. With the help of a battery spreader, the bars were loosened and after a short health check at the animal shelter, the prickly female was released into the wild. The rescue scissors, which are normally used to open car wrecks, were also used in Strasshof on the Nordbahn, where the dog “Jeannie” got her head stuck in the garden fence.
