Leg seriously injured – surfer (23) attacked by shark in Australia

Date:

On Tuesday morning (local time) a surfer was attacked by a shark on the east coast of Australia. The 23-year-old suffered serious injuries to his leg. Eyewitnesses rushed to the victim’s aid and bandaged the wounds until emergency services arrived.

The local Australian Lifeguard Service (ALS) reported this on the Facebook platform. The surfer reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries. “I’m shocked, there are a lot of people swimming here,” says a resident. The shark attack took place near the famous Australian seaside resort of Port Macquarie on the east coast. It was initially unknown what species it was.

Here you can see the message from the local ALS.

Great white shark spotted
The SharkSmart monitoring system reported early in the morning on platform X that a great white shark had been spotted nearby. This is considered the most dangerous predatory fish in the world. The beaches in the region must now remain closed for at least 24 hours.

The incident was the third shark attack in Australia this month. Last week, a surfer was bitten in the leg on Perth’s west coast (see video above). Doctors stitched up the wound and removed a shark tooth from his leg. Two weeks ago, a man was attacked by a predatory fish while spearfishing near Coral Bay. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Last year, four of the approximately 16 attacks in Australia were fatal. At least six attacks have been recorded so far this year.
