A man and a woman witnessed a terrible accident in the Güssing district while they were enjoying the summer atmosphere on the terrace of their house. Before their eyes, a car left the highway, crashed into a telephone pole and overturned. The witnesses immediately rushed to the aid of the accident victim (67).
A serious accident overshadowed the summer idyll in Deutsch Tschantschendorf-Bergen on Sunday. Shortly before 3 p.m., the 67-year-old driver of a Fiat left the road, rolled along a grass verge next to the road and shortly afterwards crashed into a telephone pole. The force of the impact caused the car to overturn and land on its roof.
Witnesses rushed to help
A man (37) and a woman (34) who had been enjoying the peace and quiet on the terrace of a house were shocked by the car tilting. After the terrible crash, the two witnesses immediately rushed to the victim of the accident and provided first aid.
The emergency services were alerted by an emergency call. The local fire brigade and comrades from Güttenbach and St. Michael arrived. There were more than 50 volunteers on site. The injured man was flown from the Güssing district to the Oberwart clinic by the Christophorus 16 medical emergency helicopter.
Cause of accident unclear
“The driver was driving on the provincial road from Punitz towards St. Michael. The accident happened at house number 244. It was initially unclear why the driver left the road,” it was said during the clean-up work. The national road was closed for almost an hour. Road users had to take a detour.
Driver drunk
It was only in the hospital that it was discovered that the 67-year-old had consumed more alcohol than was allowed while driving the Fiat. According to a detailed check, the alcohol limit of 0.8 was exceeded. The man lost his driving license and the approval was granted by the authorities.
