The shock for Beatrix Sch. is still deep. She and her two dogs were seriously injured on a hiking trail in Vienna-Döbling on Sunday morning by as yet unknown perpetrators – because of a trivial matter.
What should have been a fun trip with the two dogs to the Hermannskogel in Döbling turned into a nightmare for the 62-year-old. The result: an escaped dog, a second four-legged friend with a bruised chest and numerous abrasions, bruises and a broken metacarpal bone, along with a complaint of serious bodily harm. But from the start.
Attack without warning
“On Sunday morning I wanted to go on a trip with my two dogs. On the Agneswiese we met a sporty couple with two dark dachshunds,” the woman from Klosterneuburger remembers. And she continues to say to the “Krone”: “The dogs greeted each other cheerfully. My ‘Mitty’ also likes to bark on such occasions. Everything went peacefully.”
But that would soon change. “Without any warning and without a word, the woman came forward and suddenly started walking towards ‘Mitty.’ Of course, he barked even louder. I yelled, ‘Stop it!’ She continued to perform ‘Mitty.’ “I then threw myself protectively between her and my darling,” recalls Mrs. Sch.
“I tried to protect my face”
But the ordeal didn’t end there. The shocked dog had broken free and fled, but the attacker’s anger had apparently not subsided. “The woman suddenly started kicking me. I could only hold my arms in front of my face because she kept kicking me in the head.” And the companion? “He just saw her kicking me.”
It was only after a while that the attacker let go. The couple and the two dachshunds stormed away. “I slowly got up. My second dog, ‘Roxi’, was sitting by the side of the road, terrified, but he must have gotten something too.”
Wounded and covered in blood, Mrs. Sch. was looking for her escaped darling. “Luckily, a nice couple discovered him and took care of him in the meantime.”
Dogs and mistresses receive medical care
The two dogs were then taken to the veterinary clinic for an emergency medical examination including an x-ray. Beatrix Sch. was taken to the emergency room by his son. Result: The metacarpal bone of the fifth finger is broken. Extensive abrasions, bruises and hematomas on the forearms, hands, elbows and knees.
Crime: serious bodily harm. Beatrix Sch. also immediately filed a complaint, which is available to the “Krone”. And she is now hoping for the public’s help: “Maybe someone knows the couple. You can also leave information anonymously with the police.”
