A possible attack by the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) in Vienna was prevented. But a scene insider warns…
The latest counter-terrorist operation made international headlines. As reported, the DSN Internal Security Service was able to unmask an Iraqi IS sleeper cell that had planned bloody attacks at major events in Europe. The Vienna Marathon was also targeted. Among the five prime suspects linked across Europe is an Iraqi who has lived in Austria since 2015.
Investigations in full swing
The secret service, of course, does not want to give any further details about the alleged ex-chief of the Islamic State and how concrete the terrorist plans already were – the investigations are still in full swing.
In any case, an insider of the scene warns the “Krone”: “No need to make everything clear! The suspected Iraqi is just one of many sleepers in Austria. Whether they are IS supporters or al-Qaeda supporters – there has been increasing networking and recruitment among the Islamic cells in Europe for months.”
