According to data from the European Union Petroleum Bulletin, which is compiled weekly until August 12, the average price per liter of diesel is 1,459 eurosdown 0.95% from 1.473 euros a week ago, to return to mid-June levels after four weeks of declines.
In turn, the average price of a liter of gasoline has become 0.87% cheaper this week compared to last week, before falling to 1,589 eurosthe lowest level since mid-February, adding to five weeks of declines.
These drops in fuel prices come in the middle of the August holidays and coincide with the Asunción de la Virgen Bridge, the time of year when the highest number of journeys on the road are recorded.
The average price of both fuels started 2024 with the first increase in three months, after accumulating one decrease after another since the end of September 2023, which led to the price ending last year at the lowest level of the year, which represented a drop in prices of almost 15% for petrol and more than 13% for diesel.
So far this year, the liter of diesel has become 2.27% cheaper compared to the average cost of 1,493 euros in the last week of 2023, while gasoline is up about 3.7% compared to the price of 1,532 euros per liter at the end of last year.
Fill up the tank, cheaper than last year
At current prices, filling an average 55-liter tank of gasoline costs approximately $87.39 5.67 euros less than on the same dates last year, when it was approximately 93.06 euros.
For diesel vehicles, filling an average tank (55 litres) currently represents an expenditure of 80.24 euros, approximately 6.99 euros less than in the same week of August 2023, when the price was 87.23 euros.
Both fuels will continue to exist far removed from the highs recorded in the summer of 2022in July, when petrol was 2,141 euros and diesel 2.1 euros. Diesel has now been below the price of petrol for 76 weeks.
