It is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain huts and paths in the mountains. The Vorarlberg branch of the Alpine Club needs around four million euros for this in the coming years.
“Saving huts and trails together” is the urgent appeal of the Association of Alpine Clubs in Austria (Austrian Alpine Club, Friends of Nature of Austria and Austrian Tourist Club), coupled with a signature petition. “In anticipation of the current campaign, a needs assessment was carried out, in which each Alpine Club chapter drew up a five-year plan,” explains Michael Mathis, General Manager of the Vorarlberg chapter. In concrete terms, the aim was to get an overview of how much the maintenance of the Alpine Club-managed trails and huts is estimated to cost in the coming years.
