From the cellar to the roofs and finally to prison: this is how an extremely spectacular escape of two criminals in Wiener Neudorf in the Mödling district (Lower Austria) can be summarised, in which the fire brigade also played a decisive role.
The two Slovaks (41, 43) were initially caught by a resident while they were searching a basement. The duo immediately ran away and fled via balconies to the roofs of the apartment building. The elderly man was located there by the aviation police. He had injured himself while climbing and was brought down using the fire brigade’s turntable ladder.
A short time later, the 41-year-old was handcuffed in the stairwell. The perpetrator’s car was also found. Stolen license plates had been installed.
Woman pushed aside
The men are said to have committed numerous basement burglaries. They stole bicycles, e-scooters and tools worth more than 20,000 euros. Part of the loot was seized in the 41-year-old’s car, which was parked in Vienna. They are also accused of coercion: during their escape, they allegedly entered an apartment through an open balcony door and pushed a woman aside. But she remained unharmed.
The two suspects have partially confessed during interrogation. They are in prison in Wiener Neustadt.
