Fatal alpine accident on Tuesday in the Tyrolean lowlands: While climbing in the Kaiser Mountains, a boulder broke off and then fell on a 31-year-old German woman. The woman was seriously injured and had to be rescued by helicopter. Her brother (33) and another companion escaped unharmed or rather with horror.
According to the police, the group of three wanted to climb the Widauersteig to the top of the Scheffauer. The 33-year-old German climbed forward. It happened around 2:45 p.m., shortly before the finish.
“A few meters below the exit, a stone of about 50 by 50 centimeters suddenly burst loose,” the researchers say. The man was able to react and jump aside, but his hand was injured. His 31-year-old sister had it worse. She was hit by the boulder and suffered serious injuries.
Brothers and sisters taken to hospital by helicopter
Her brother and another companion – a British woman (32) who was unharmed – called 911. After initial treatment, the injured siblings were rescued by an emergency helicopter and then flown to Kufstein District Hospital.
