A 40-year-old man who allegedly beat up a man at Vienna’s Westbahnhof train station on Monday is now in custody. There is a risk of escape and committing a crime, court spokeswoman Christina Salzborn said.
As reported, the 40-year-old is accused of punching a 30-year-old in the face around 4:30 a.m. Monday. The victim had to be resuscitated by rescue workers and taken to a hospital. His life is still in danger.
The motive is still unclear, says police spokesman Markus Dittrich. The two men are said not to have known each other. The 40-year-old man was probably under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of the attack.
The suspect was identified with the help of witnesses and arrested Tuesday evening. He is now being investigated for serious bodily harm.
