Hard to believe: a former firefighter (31) is the burglar and arsonist in the fire station of Münster in Tyrol last Friday. The man who was arrested in Hall was particularly daring.
On Friday around 5:00 a.m., the Florianijüngers of the community Unterland had to go to a fire in their own four walls. An unknown person broke into the equipment shed, stole money and set fire to it. But he could not be happy with his loot for long. The handcuffs clicked on Saturday evening for the 31-year-old local resident in Hall. He confessed and is now in prison in Innsbruck.
Suspect had an argument with his partner
The history of the crime is extraordinary. “The man got into an argument with his partner and then drove to Münster in a company car,” says Richard Hotter, commander of the Kramsach police station. There he decided to break into the fire station building. “He didn’t give a motive; he also claimed that the door wasn’t locked,” says Hotter. The police assume that he entered the building by force.
He was very familiar with this because the perpetrator had been a member of the Münster fire department for years. “He used a crowbar to remove the safe from the wall and brought it to the car. “He then went back and set fire to the command room to cover his tracks,” the police chief said. The fire devil also set fire to cotton gloves.
Safe and crowbar thrown in the inn
As a result, he drove to Hall and threw the – now emptied – safe and the crowbar in the inn. But the thieves had no fun weekend. Because on Saturday at 18:10 the police arrested him in the garden of his apartment in Hall. A waiter’s wallet from the fire brigade was found in the company car. Of the loot – thousands of euros – only a three-digit euro amount remained. In any case, a debit card from the fire brigade was found in the wallet.
Traveling without a driver’s license
Incidentally, he does not have a driver’s license. He handed his boss a false ‘note’. Marco Ludl, commander of the FFW Münster, cannot believe that the perpetrator was previously in his own ranks. “I would not have believed that he was capable of that,” says Ludl.
