Dramatic scenes on Wednesday morning on the Ortler in South Tyrol: four mountaineers from Austria slipped on an ice field and fell more than 50 meters into the depth. Two of them were flown to hospital with serious injuries.
The mountaineers entered the ice field while descending along the back ridge, online media “stol.it” reported.
Rocky terrain
They fell in rocky terrain and two mountaineers were seriously injured. The two were flown by helicopter to the hospital in Bolzano. Her colleagues were slightly injured.
The last two were also rescued by emergency helicopter and taken to the hospital in Silandro. Several mountain rescue teams, the White Cross and the Carabinieri were in action.
