The general coordinators of LAB, Garbine Aranburu and Igor Arroyohave defended that this organization is “the new Basque trade union system”, which “raises complaints, but also alternatives”, and they have stated that their aim is to be “the common home of all workers without discrimination”, to deepen in “feminist union movement”, strengthen the “independence union movement”, organize “more struggles and strikes” in the workplace and continue to “participate in social struggles”.
The union closed this Friday its tenth congress, developed over two days under the motto “Bagara, bagoaz” and attended by 500 representatives, in which it approved the lines of work for the next five years and its new address. The union has given 94% support to the new National Committee, which added: 389 votes in favour, 13 against, two blanks and ten abstentions
This second day started with the interventions of the guests, including the coordinator of EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegicor the general secretary of ELA, Mitxel Lakuntza
Similarly, a declaration on the self-determination of peoples signed by international trade unions has been presented, read by representatives of the Sahara and Palestine.
The international women’s group also read a statement, emphasizing “the empowerment and importance of women in the struggle.”
Then recognition was given to the women of LAB and to the former general secretary of the union Ainhoa Etxaidafter which the recently elected General Coordinators, Garbiñe Aranburu and Igor Arroyo, intervened as, as a novelty, the management of LAB will be led by two people.

Aranburu and Arroyo have pointed out that LAB is a union “heir to the international class struggle”. “We are the workers of Euskal Herria. Our people are divided and not recognized, but they are not subjugated. We maintain our national identity and remain steadfast in the class struggle,” they emphasized.
In the words of those responsible: “LAB brings fresh air to all workers, it is a tool that we put at the disposal of all Basque workers to fight for decent living and working conditions, it is the union that puts workers at the center of the margins, the union of all workers that raises complaints, but also alternatives. We are transformers. We are the new Basque union”.
The LAB coordinators have emphasized that the aim of the union is “to build up the Basque Republic, but above all through the Basque labor law, the Basque socio-economic environment and the Basque social security”. “It’s time to get wet and we’re ready and so we’re moving forward and giving union work a new lease of life,” she added.
Together with Garbiñe Aranburu and Igor Arroyo they form the Executive Committee of LAB Maider Jauregic (responsible for communication), oihana lopetegi (responsible for industrial action and collective bargaining), Kris Gete (responsible for the Federation of Industry), Maddalen Gilder (responsible for the Federation of Private Services) and Endika Perez (head of social action).
They are affiliated with, among others, Xavier Ugartemendia (responsible for the Federation of Public Services), Izascun Garcia (organization manager), Aiora Imaz Gabilondo (Responsible for Participation and Internal Communication) and Arantza Vazquez (responsible for transversal areas).
