Gasoline used – fight against wasp nest sets farm on fire

Date:

On Tuesday, 180 firefighters were deployed to extinguish a fire on a farm in the Mühlviertel. The fire was in a barn and 35 cattle had to be brought to safety. The search for the cause yielded a surprising result: the owner of the farm was responsible for the spread of the flames.

Eleven fire brigades fought the fire in the farm wing of a farm in Auberg in the Mühlviertel on Tuesday. Thanks to their courageous efforts, they managed to prevent the flames from spreading to the apartment building. After the fire was extinguished, the search for the cause of the fire began by experts from the fire prevention office in the presence of two officials from the LKA Upper Austria.

With fuel and lighter
This was finally decided on Wednesday. It turned out that the 57-year-old homeowner had apparently tried to burn out a wasp nest earlier. He had doused it with gasoline and set it on fire with a lighter.

Chain reaction
He then wanted to extinguish the flames with sand, but a smoldering fire may have continued underground. The roots of a rotten tree trunk caught fire, which spread to the entire tree and to car tires that were lying directly next to the trunk. The fire then spread to the roof of the stable building and spread. The damage amounts to several hundred thousand euros.
