Exceptionally 30 degrees: that’s life in Gugu, the cold pole of Austria

Date:

In the Mühlviertler Gugu it has rained every other day this summer and otherwise the weather is special, says farmer Hans-Peter Waldhör from Liebenau in Upper Austria. Despite heat waves, 30 degrees is an exception; he does not even experience the dreaded tropical nights. How does he deal with climate change? Waldhör has a secret.

“If we have a warm night in the summer, it is 18 degrees. 30 degrees during the day is very rare, it never gets above 30 degrees. For us, it must have rained every other day this summer. In the communities around us, it has remained dry. Last year it was the other way around.” – When farmer Hans-Peter Waldhör (47) from Liebenau talks about his special summer in the Mühlviertel town of Gugu, city dwellers often shake their heads in disbelief.
