Serious allegations against an AfD politician from Saxony: As Belarusian media report, MP Jörg Dornau is said to have abused political prisoners of the Lukashenko regime as cheap labor on his onion plantation in Belarus.
Media reports quote a prisoner describing the harsh working conditions at the OOO Zybulka-Bel plantation, established in 2020. Accordingly, there was breakfast at 7:00, but then no water or food until the end of the working day at 20:00. The workers were then taken to a camp. It is said to be a filthy basement in which people were freezing.
Five euros for 13 hours of onion sorting
While they worked on the plantation, they were watched by a supervisor who then decided whether the prisoners from the nearby Lida prison on the border with Poland and Lithuania would be paid or not. One prisoner said he was paid five euros for a thirteen-hour workday.
Hundreds of political prisoners are still in custody
According to the American portal “Politico”, the company OOO Zybulka-Bel was founded in Belarus in October 2020. At that time, hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets across the country for more democracy and against the regime of the Putin-allied ruler Alexander Lukashenko. The protests were suppressed and hundreds of people were imprisoned. According to the human rights organization Viasna, more than 1,300 political prisoners are currently in custody.
According to the reports, Dornau has an agreement with a local isolation center for offenders to use political prisoners to work on the onion plantation he is involved in.
Witness claims to have seen Dornau personally
A witness reports that he even saw Dornau in real life once. “Once a tall, bald man came in a car with a German license plate and stopped at the accommodation where we were sorting onions with hired labor.”
The AfD politician has been in the Saxon state parliament since 2019. He has been criticized several times for his business activities in Belarus. Dornau even had to pay a fine of more than 20,000 euros for concealing his involvement in the onion farm from the Saxon state parliament.
Dornau himself has not yet responded to the allegations.
