The events took place at a “not allowed” festival and a police officer was shot in the leg
A shooting this Sunday at the ‘Moachella’ festival in Washington, United States, killed at least one minor and injured three people, including a police officer. Washington Metropolitan Police Department chief Robert J. Contee has confirmed that the victims include a 15-year-old boy who died at the scene. And two adults and a police officer were injured, Fox News reports. The officer was shot in the lower extremity. The three injured have been taken to a hospital, Contee said.
The shooting took place at approximately 6:00 p.m. (local time) at an “unauthorized event” associated with “Moechella,” which police sources have described as a “defense festival reinforcing Washington DC culture.”
“We need to ensure that individuals are held accountable for their actions,” Contee stressed. “If there are large concentrations, it only takes one person with a firearm to make it a dangerous scene,” said the police chief.
Police officers seized several illegal firearms earlier in the evening and the firearm with which the officer was shot has not been recovered.
For its part, Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser has called for those responsible to be held accountable. “We have a child who died in an event that was not properly planned, involving people with guns,” Bowser said. “Even with the police managing the crowds in the place, someone has used a gun and now a child has died,” the mayor said, adding that more responsibility needs to be put on the part of the authorities.
