After the bomb alarm at Linz’s main station, now the second announcement within a few days in the state capital. ‘Infidels’ were said to have been killed in an attack on the Otto Glöckel school on Friday afternoon, but nothing unusual was found.
“Allahu akbar. We attack the Otto Glöckel school in Linz at 2:20 p.m. The disbelievers will die.” On Friday at exactly 1:12 p.m., an email was received by the state police headquarters in Upper Austria. After Tuesday’s bomb threat at the central station, this was the second announcement with a radical religious message in the capital.
Dogs and bodies with knowledge of explosives
“We immediately ordered all emergency services available to the school,” explained Michael Babl, spokesman for the Directorate of the Upper Austrian State Police. Dogs and explosives experts, among others, searched the school.
The operation went smoothly
However, at the time of the threat, school lessons were already over; there were said to be only a few teachers left in the building and they were asked outside by armed police officers. “I have to take the bus to Enns, I still have my jacket in the closet and I quickly bought a new one. The most important thing is that nothing happens,” said one teacher. The children who watched the operation before school also remained calm.
Everything clear after 90 minutes
“We were already gone. In the afternoon we actually have football training at school. Now that the whole street is closed, I can’t go home,” said two young boys. Approval was given approximately 90 minutes after the email was received by police. “No dangerous objects could be found,” Babl said. And there was also no trace of the alleged attack.
