At the beginning of September, a hunter shot at elite soldiers in Carinthia. New witness statements available to the “Krone” show the woman’s shocking hunting behavior.
“I am a passionate hunter, gamekeeper and official of the Lower Austrian State Hunting Association. But I have never experienced anything like this in 24 years of service in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America! One month after the dangerous incident in Carinthia, in which a 68-year-old local fighter shot at German elite soldiers! Bundeswehr, a participant in an exercise, tells the “Crown” his bewilderment.
Since the Klagenfurt Public Prosecutor’s Office has stopped the investigation against the woman, the shot from about ten meters away may be justified. The woman thought she felt “threatened by terrorists” in the idyllic forest in Friesach.
Woman ‘not afraid, but aggressive’
In the witness statement of one of the four affected Bundeswehr soldiers, which is available to the “Krone”, the case is different. The woman was not afraid or restless, but made a very aggressive impression:
“We arrived at the Schratzbach T-junction at 9:23 p.m. The driver and I got out when suddenly a shot rang out from a distance of about 25 feet. The shot was fired over our heads, the muzzle flash was clearly visible.”
Shortly afterwards a vehicle drove up: “An older man got out and told us there was a gun pointed at us. (…) As I was talking to the woman, I could see that the gun was actually pointed at me. She stayed like that for ten minutes.” Then the police came.
Shot “immediately and without warning”
It was also emphatically noted that the shot “immediately after we got off over our heads without warning” was delivered. This differs greatly from the statements of the fighter, who emphasized that she had spoken to the soldiers several times. The victims now want to submit a request for a continuation to the Klagenfurt public prosecutor’s office.
2002 Military officers shot dead
Because the woman could have met other participants in the exercise – such as in 2002, when a fighter near Pinkafeld killed 20-year-old soldier Christian Brenner with a shot to the head. He stated at the time that he had aimed at a wild boar 60 meters away in the dark. The shot missed – just like in Carinthia without a bullet stop – and fatally hit the young boy from 180 meters away.
