Tragic industrial accident at the large construction site of the University of Graz: A 58-year-old fell into a gravel pit with a mini excavator and became trapped under the machine. The man from Graz died after being taken to hospital.
A serious industrial accident occurred on Wednesday morning at the construction site on the site of the former pre-clinic of the University of Graz, where the new physics center is currently being built.
Man died in hospital
According to police, a 58-year-old fell into a three-metre deep gravel pit with a mini excavator at around 8.15am and became trapped under the machine. After first aid from police officers, the man from Graz could be resuscitated by an emergency medical team, but succumbed to his serious injuries after being taken to the LKH Graz. The labor inspectorate excludes negligence by third parties.
The operation was also very dangerous for the police officers who provided first aid: they started CPR under the excavator, which was lifted or lying on its side. Pieces of stone kept breaking off and falling into the pit.
