Since Israel’s ground offensive in Lebanon began, there have been repeated reports of gun battles between the Israeli army and the pro-Iranian Hezbollah militia near UN peacekeeping mission UNIFIL posts. UNIFIL was also asked several times to withdraw from the affected areas. Now international soldiers have apparently come under Israeli fire.
The attack took place near Naqoura in the southern border area, the Lebanese state agency NNA reported on Thursday. There are currently no further details or information about possible victims. There was no confirmation from the UN mission itself or from the Israeli army.
Naqoura is the first major city near the demarcation line between Israel and Lebanon. The UNIFIL mission (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) also has its headquarters here. The UN mission has been monitoring the border area for decades
