The Basque Government’s Board of Directors approved on Tuesday the amendment to the budget law of the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV), which will gradual equalization of salaries of the teaching and instructional staff of private centers funded by the Ministry of Education, with that of public centers.
As the Minister of Education, Begoña Pedrosa, explained during the press conference after the Government Council, the aim is to gradually equalize salaries by 2027. Moreover, they will be paid retroactively the remuneration relating to 2023 and 2024.
This extension of credit to pay the part of salaries stipulated in the agreement to achieve the equalization of public salaries for the years 2023 and 2024 will entail a payout of almost 67 million euros.
This process is framed in the legal mandate, both of the Organic Law on Education (2006) and of the Education Law of Euskadi (2023), and Pedrosa has stated that there is consensus on it from representatives of all charter schools in Euskadi of social initiative and ikastolas, as well as the representation of the majority unions.
The bill will be that now sent to the Basque Parliament for processingdebate and approval by the plenary.
Minister Pedrosa has defended that it should be dealt with by the single reading procedure, that is to say in one vote and without the possibility of amendments, although she recalled that the decision corresponds to the Chamber of Vitoria-Gasteiz.
Pedrosa expects the law to be approved before December 31, so that the Ministry of Finance can then enable the funds to meet these payments.
