The Styrian police are calling on the public for help after an extremely brutal robbery in Graz at the end of August: three men are still on the run after the incident. They threatened and injured their victim in an apartment and then fled in an adventurous manner.
The home invasion took place on August 31 around 8 p.m. in the Jakomini district and police have now released photos of a suspect. The victim is a 31-year-old Syrian national living in Graz. The backgrounds are being kept secret for the time being, but a connection with the drug scene seems unlikely, they say.
The perpetrators were after cash
The suspects apparently knew very well that a significant amount of cash could be taken from the man’s apartment and were extremely targeted, says police spokesman Heimo Kohlbacher. They held a knife to their victim’s neck, demanded money and stabbed the 31-year-old in the thigh. The victim, who also suffered injuries to his upper body, was completely intimidated by the brutal attack and handed over a “slightly large amount of cash,” according to police.
Trio has been in hiding for weeks, searched for with surveillance images
The men then fled in a car. A witness saw the escapees in the stairwell of the apartment building, wanted to stop them and threw himself on the hood of the getaway car. He was dragged several hundred meters. The suspects eventually managed to lose their pursuer, but after that their trail was lost.
A suspect was identified through a surveillance camera at the victim’s workplace, although his identity is still unclear. All three suspects are said to have spoken to each other in Arabic; no further personal descriptions are available at this time. Now the police are hoping for relevant information from the public.
Information about the crime or the suspected perpetrators is sent to the crime department of the police command of the city of Graz 059-133-65-3333 or the emergency number 133 asked.
