The Danish government has prepared the population for new corona booster vaccinations. About 2.5 million citizens will receive an invitation to a fourth vaccination in the fall – nursing home residents and other vulnerable people from September 15, all over-50s from October 1, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced on Wednesday at a press conference in Copenhagen.
Especially vulnerable people such as seniors and people with an immune deficiency could receive a booster vaccination before the summer holidays. The Danish corona strategy for the coming months has four main goals, Frederiksen said: Above all, the elderly and vulnerable must be protected from serious diseases.
Vaccination against new lockdowns
Overloading the hospitals must be prevented and the economy must be kept going. They also want to ensure that there are no new lockdowns and too many restrictions.
The number of new infections in the country with its almost six million inhabitants has been at a low level for a long time. However, they have risen quite a bit in recent weeks. The main reason for this is the spread of the omicron subvariant BA.5, which already accounts for about 59 percent of the analyzed cases, according to Danish Health Minister Magnus Heunicke.
