Spectacular accident Tuesday morning in the Tyrolean Oberland: On the Rangger Köpfl near Oberperfuss (Innsbruck Land district), a crane vehicle left the path and overturned. The 55-year-old driver became trapped and injured. He had to be flown to the clinic by helicopter.
On the Rangger Köpfl, work on a brand new lift system is entering its final phase, in time for the winter season. That was overshadowed on Monday by a serious accident. Shortly before 10am, a local man (55) drove a 48-tonne crane vehicle along an alpine path through the valley.
Deviated from the Almweg
“Between the Krimpenbachsattel and the Rosskogelhütte, the 55-year-old’s vehicle went over the right edge of the road for an unknown reason. The mobile crane fell about ten meters and came to rest on the left side of the vehicle. The driver was trapped in the car,” police said.
By helicopter to the clinic
The driver of the support vehicle made an emergency call and provided first aid to two hikers. The crew of the alerted rescue helicopter and emergency responders were able to free the 55-year-old from the vehicle. “The injured person was then flown to the clinic in Innsbruck,” the investigators continued.
The arriving fire brigades Oberperfuss, Kematen and Zirl only had to secure the accident site. Serious damage was caused to the crane truck.
