Every second person in Austria views the headscarf as a symbol of discrimination against Muslim women. This is evident from research by Unique Research. More than half (55 percent) also think that Muslims are more difficult to integrate than other groups.
For example, Islam is more violent than other religions, according to 62 percent of respondents. Nearly every second person (48 percent) says they are afraid of an Islamist terrorist attack, and almost as many people are not afraid.
Moreover, two-thirds of respondents see discrimination against women in Muslim communities, and half see the headscarf as a symbol of discrimination. However, just over one in four people (27 people) believe that Muslims in Austria are disadvantaged. Moreover, the majority (52 percent) believe that the media does not distinguish between Muslims and Islamists.
The government must reduce immigration
Nevertheless, Austrians’ positions on Islam are crucial. Six in ten respondents believe that the government should reduce Muslim immigration. Three-quarters are in favor of stricter controls on mosques.
Unique Research surveyed 800 people online through October.
