The Israeli army says it has killed the military leader of the terrorist organization Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in the Gaza Strip, Mohammed Abu Sakhil. He only took office in May, after his predecessor was also murdered by the Israeli army.
Islamic Jihad confirmed Abu Sakhil’s death to the German news agency.
Attack on former school
According to the army, he was killed in an attack on a former school in the northern Gaza Strip. His son and daughter and three other people were also killed.
The PIJ is considered one of the most radical militant groups in the Middle East. Its members fire rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israel.
However, the organization is considered less powerful than Hamas. The war was sparked by the massacre by Hamas and other groups such as the PIJ in Israel on October 7, 2023, which left 1,200 dead and around 250 kidnapped.
